So steht es jedenfalls geschrieben. Wenn aber unter »Unkraut« Pflanzen verstanden werden, die sich störend raumgreifend ausbreiten, so kann dieses winzige Gewächs nicht dazu gezählt werden. Die meisten Menschen würden das Pflänzchen gar nicht wahrnehmen, wenn sie nicht mit der Nase darauf gestoßen werden. »Mastkraut« ist auch kein Name, der sich positiv besetzen ließe. Was also macht es trotzdem zu einem gern gesehenen Gast in meinem Garten? Vielleicht ist es einfach die Tatsache, dass es so klein ist. Eine auf Zwergengröße geschrumpfte Nelke, die eine Topfgalerie mit Hauswurzrosetten mit einem grünen Polster unterlegt, elegant über die Topfränder hängt und sich den ganzen Sommer über mit winzigsten Sternchen schmückt. Die Pflanzen sind ausdauernd, frieren im Winter zurück und treiben im Frühjahr neu aus. Da sie so zart sind, lässt sich das abgestorbene Grün einfach abreißen. Fallen die Samen dabei auf offenen Boden, so wachsen im nächsten Sommer weitere kleine Polster. Wo die Vegetation höher als zwanzig Zentimeter wird, hat der Winzling keine Chance, sich dauerhaft zu etablieren. </ins></div></td></tr>
